With blog platforms Movable Type and WordPress adding social-networking features to their software, it was only a matter of time before Google's Blogger did the same.

A post on the official Blogger blog earlier this week announced that users would soon be able to display their "followers"--other Blogger members who have subscribed to them.
The optional feature--along with a notification on blog owners' "dashboards" of how many people have subscribed to their blogs through Blogger--will be rolled out in the next few weeks. A new tab on the dashboard, called "Blogs I'm Following," lets Blogger users keep track of updates to the blogs on their subscription list.

The problem with these sorts of features is that they're inherently limited to readers whose "following" is directly tied to the Blogger software and its members, so it will reflect only a slice of readers. A follower widget (or gadget, as Google calls them) claiming 21 followers only refers to Blogger members, not to the overall number of people reading the blog, which could make the owners of smaller blogs get a bit image-conscious.

But with its Google ownership, Blogger is tying the new following feature into some of its other properties, like Google Reader and the forthcoming Google Friend Connect. The "Blogs I'm Following" tab, for example, can be imported into Google Reader.(Source: the social)

Can you believe that?! An email was sent to me saying the I was banned because of not having certain blog qualities they are looking. And for once I thought that entrecard was for everyone (bloggers). Here is the copy of the email sent to me.



And what does "Rule 6" says? Is says "Excessive ads: Blogs that contain excessive advertising, affiliate links, and those classified as splogs (spam blogs) will be removed." This is what I have to ask you my dear readers, Do you really think that this blog is a "splog"?

Well this is what I have to say to them, I don't mind removing me in their list. Why? Because the traffic that this blog acquires from them is very minimal, and a big percentage comes from search engines (organic traffic). And those clicks that come from entrecard is just blog traffic and maybe a very little number of them are blog readers not as to search engine traffic.

Lesson learned: Don't expect much on others to increase your traffic. It is you who will build up your own blog traffic from the contents you post on your blog.

What is an RSS feed?

Feeds, also known as RSS feeds, XML feeds, syndicated content, or web feeds, contain frequently updated content published by a website. They are usually used for news and blog websites, but are also used for distributing other types of digital content, including pictures, audio or video.

A feed can have the same content as a webpage, but it’s often formatted differently. Published in XML (eXtensible Markup Language) format, RSS is an easy way for you to keep up with current information without having to use the conventional methods of browsing or continuously searching for the latest information.

What are RSS Readers and RSS enabled sites?

RSS allows the content and information you are interested in to be streamed or delivered directly into your browser or RSS reader application. When you subscribe, your reader will automatically check the website and download new content so you can see what is new since you last visited the feed.

How does AideRSS work?

For a detailed overview on how to use AideRSS please view our screencasts. However, in a nutshell you enter the URL of the feed that you would like to have filtered and we do some math and checking around the web to learn about this feed, its statistics, and people’s reaction to it. We then assign PostRank™ scores to all articles in the feed and provide you with a variety of tools to sort and parse these items of interest into manageable lots for you to scan and digest at your leisure.

You can use AideRSS to evaluate a new feed you are considering subscribing to and you can also aggregate your feeds in the My Feeds section to use AideRSS to help you manage, rank and sort your feeds.

Selecting a filtering level?

Too few stories?

It is possible that your filtering level is set too high and the blog that you have subscribed to may not have any posts that meet the chosen level of filtering.

Some sites that don’t generate a lot of traffic, comments, or activities may not have highly differentiated PostRank scores – for example, almost all posts may be scored as 1.0. If you have then subscribed to only the best posts, our algorithms will have no way to differentiate these posts and very few stories will be delivered to your “My Feeds” section or feed reader.

To fix this, simply click on the blog link in your “My Feeds” section, or navigate to the blog by typing the URL into our search box. Then, open a section with a lower level of filtering (all/good/great), and re-add the stories to your “My Feeds” section by clicking on “Add posts to My Feeds” button.

Too many posts?

If you getting more posts than you would like to receive then you may need to choose a higher level of filtering.

To raise the filtering level, navigate to the feed summary page either by clicking on its link in your “Saved Feeds” section, or enter the URL directly in the search box. Next, open the section with the desired higher level of filtering and click “Add posts to My Feeds” – old filter will be removed automatically and you will receive less stories from the selected source.

What does the little BlogTrends line mean?

The BlogTrends line shows the performance over time of the author or source. From this small graph it is easy to gauge the consistency and the quality of the posts. The red dot is their best post, the blue dot their lowest, and the yellow dot their current post or article. These sparklines allow you to see at a glance how consistent an author is and if their popularity and quality is increasing, decreasing, or staying about the same. It is a great way to get a feel for a feed at a glance.

What does it cost?

AideRSS is free and we intend to keep it that way.

In the future we may chose to add additional “advanced” features at a cost but there will always be a standard version available at no cost.

We are a startup located in Waterloo, Canada. We were overwhelmed by our RSS streams in our feed readers and figured there had to be a way to help deal with this onslaught and make better use of our time – hence AideRSS.
